Past Media coverage

Clearwater on the front page of the Sunday Seattle Times, April 1, 2007

Recently Seattle Times reporter Linda Shaw and and photographer Thomas James Hurst spent many hours at Clearwater interviewing and photographing students and staff, observing and sometimes participating in some of the day's activities. To our delight, on April 1, 2007, Linda's article and Thomas' photos appeared under the lead headline, "No assignments. No tests. No grades. Parents say, 'No problem.'" We are grateful for the amount of time, care and research Linda put into her article and are excited by the result. Click here to read the article online.

Visit The Clearwater School stop on Snohomish County's annual Solar Tour

Stop by The Clearwater School, one of 18 businesses and homes that are part of the annual Solar Tour in Snohomish County, Saturday, October 1, 2011, 10am-4pm. There is no fee for the self-guided tour. Click to get a list of stops and directions. The Snohomish County tour is one of several thousand solar tours around the nation.

Last fall Snohomish PUD installed solar panels on one of Clearwater’s buildings, thanks to a grant we received from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation. Check out the amount of power we've generated since the panels were installed. Students and staff will be at school demonstrating small solar projects that we received along with our panels.

We'll also give tours of the recently finished stream restoration work on North Creek, a salmon stream that runs through the school's campus. The restoration work was done in cooperation with Snohomish County Surface Water Management to create better native habitat for fish and other wildlife.

Play Days for Preschoolers & Their Parents

Thursday, July 14 & August 11, 2011, 10:00AM-12:30PM

The Clearwater School is hosting two Play Days this summer for preschoolers and their parents. At Play Days your child can engage in free play and you and your child can experience a morning at Clearwater, where students are free to pursue their passions in a community based on freedom, trust and responsibility. If you would like to join us for one or both dates, please call (425-489-2050) or email The Clearwater School to reserve a space. Reservations are required.

Clearwater Offers Two Summer Sessions

The Clearwater School's summer program, open to new and current students, is an excellent way to experience our unique learning community. At Clearwater, kids make the rules, decide how and what to learn, hire and fire staff and choose how to spend their time, becoming adaptable, self-assured thoughtful people with the skills that actually lead to success.

The two summer sessions are four weeks each, three days a week, Tuesday through Thursday. The first session is June 28-July 21, 2011. The second is August 2-25, 2011. Summer sessions are an extension of the regular school year with activities corresponding to student interests, and the addition of all the extras that summer warmth allows. We initiate spontaneous activities and outings, and expect to enjoy many field trips, lots of swimming, focused projects and hang out time. This year we will also be able to witness the exciting stream restoration work that breaks ground on our portion of North Creek on July 1.

Students may enroll for one or both sessions, with an option to attend single weeks or single days on a space-available basis.

Summer fees PER FOUR-WEEK SESSION are:
$420—-3 days, Tuesday-Thursday attendance
$115/week drop in—-space available basis
$45/day drop in—-space available basis

For more information and to register, contact Mathew Riggle or Stephanie Sarantos at (425) 489-2050 or email us.
