Alternative Education Forum

Wednesday, January 29, 6:30-8:30pm

Co-sponsored by The Clearwater School, the Seattle Holistic Center and PCC Natural Markets

Held at: The Clearwater School
11006 34th Avenue NE
Seattle, WA 98125
To pre-register call The Clearwater School at 206 306-0060.
Fee: $5

At a time when traditional schools are increasing requirements for student assessments and standardized testing, many parents are concerned that their child’s unique needs may be overlooked. The aim of the Alternative Education Forum is to provide parents an opportunity to explore alternative models of education that reflect their values and support their goals for their children. Sudbury, Waldorf and Montessori schools will be featured— these schools share in common a concern for the development of the whole child. They provide individualized attention and respectful education, each through different methods.

Representatives from three Seattle schools will present their philosophies and describe how their schools work. After the presentations, participants will have ample time to raise questions. Additional materials and information will be available. Join us for an illuminating evening that will expand your understanding of these three Seattle alternative schools.

Information Nights

Throughout the year, The Clearwater School hosts information nights at the school where you can learn about the school and Sudbury school model that we are based on. There will a short presentation followed by a question and answer period. Refreshments are provided. Check the calendar for specific dates and times.

Play Days at Clearwater

This fall The Clearwater School is hosting Play Days for parents, toddlers and preschoolers. Participating in a Play Day is a great chance to explore Clearwater as a future setting for your child. If you would like to join us for one or all of these dates, please call The Clearwater School to reserve a space. We look forward to hearing from you.
Parent/child Play Days provide an opportunity to:
  • Play and get to know others who share similar parenting values and styles.
  • Learn more about The Clearwater School and Sudbury model
  • Involve family and younger siblings of current students
  • Expand and enrich our community
  • Gain support for parenting children in ways that are based on trust and respect
Play Day Schedule
  • Every Friday, 10 am to 1 pm (except holidays). Reservations required.

Rolling Thunder Down Home Democracy Tour

The Clearwater School was at the Rolling Thunder Down Home Democracy Tour on Saturday, August 24, at Petrovitsky Park in Renton. Shawna and Nora staffed an information booth about Clearwater, and facilitated a workshop called "Educational Democracy: Rights and Freedom for Students". The booth was busy with interested and supportive people all day. Click here to visit the Rolling Thunder web site.

New web page design going live soon

The Clearwater School is currently being revamped with a new look and (we hope) better organization so that it will be easier to find what you are looking for. Phase 1 will be completed and go live soon!
